Supporting the excellence in music and celebrating the connection between music, education and philanthropy.
(Programme concluded and no longer supported by the Trafigura Foundation)
The Trafigura Foundation supports the 2018 edition of the Verbier Festival, an international music festival taking place during summer in the Swiss Alps. It nurtures three orchestras (the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra), which are internationally celebrated examples of excellence in orchestra education. It is also a pioneering institution in the identification, encouragement and development of young music talents.
The Trafigura Foundation decided to support the Verbier Festival to conclude a decade of commitment in favour of music education for underprivileged communities. Before the strategic turn that drove the Foundation to redesign its main focus areas, we have been backing several programmes (such as the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre en Classe, Fundación Crescendo con la Musica, and Orchestras for All) promoting music as a fundamental complement in the education of marginalized children and young adults.
Vincent Faber, Executive Director of the Trafigura Foundation, has been invited to join the panel co-organised by the Verbier Festival and Swiss Philanthropy Foundation to talk about the different experiences of the Trafigura Foundation in this particular field (see “Music and Philanthropy: an alliance that can change education”, 2018 edition of the Verbier Festival).
