Perspektiva, Russian Federation

Perspektiva works to bridge the gap between job seekers with disabilities and employers, and facilitate partnerships between the business and the community of young people with disabilities.

Today across the Russian Federation, persons with disabilities (PWDs) are still one of the most marginalised social groups and cannot easily find a job due to the lack of workplace accessibility, effective job coaching and job placement support. The NGO Perspektiva seeks to tackle this disparity by challenging prevailing negative stereotypes around the employment of PWDs.

In partnership with the Trafigura Foundation, Perspektiva aims at strengthening and expanding its disability employment programme to six Russian cities (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Voronezh, and Kazan). This ambitious mission will be achieved by working in close collaboration with the two fronts of the issue: on one side, preparing young PWDs to the job market; on the other side, working with the business community to raise awareness about disability and improve the employability opportunities for PWDs.

Perspektiva envisages opening its employability programme to 400-500 young PWDs annually. Individual career counseling, pre-employment training, coaching, orientation and mentorship programmes are some of the activities of this comprehensive project.

Simultaneously, the NGO trains and raises awareness among businesses about hiring people with disabilities. It has established a fee-for-services network of “disability awareness trainers” and “access experts” who raise awareness among the business community about disability and help develop a more positive attitude about the hire of PWDs. Thanks to this initiative, Perspektiva has developed a vast network of employment partners who have consistently opened jobs up to PWDs, offered mentorship and internship opportunities.

Perspektiva’s model is proving successful. In 2018, it engaged 778 young PWDs in employment activities and placed in permanent jobs 184 beneficiaries. Other 111 secured internships at Perspektiva’s partner companies.

Maria, a young woman with cerebral palsy, took part in the joint mentoring programme that Perspektiva runs with Microsoft. During the final round of her training, her presentation to Perspektiva’s business community was recognised as outstanding and she was offered an internship by Nestlé. Four months later, she landed a full-time position. “I did not know how to look for a job. I did not possess the necessary skills, self -confidence and knowledge. Perspektiva pointed me in the right direction, helped me secure a job, and, together, we share this success,” she says.
