Our partnership with FIND to support COVID-19 response in low- and middle-income countries
Trafigura Foundation has donated USD300,000 to the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) to support its response to COVID-19 in low- and middle-income countries. FIND is an international non-profit organization dedicated to transforming diagnostics and testing to solve some of the world’s most challenging health issues. Given the critical role of diagnostics in pandemic preparedness and response, this donation will enable FIND to continue its vital work in driving innovation and access to tests for COVID-19.
Diagnosis of COVID-19 is a challenge in all countries, but it is particularly difficult in low-and middle-income countries. Experts are deeply concerned about the public health impact of the virus in countries where fragile health systems face overwhelming barriers to the timely access of simple, fit-for-purpose tests.
As a co-convener of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator Diagnostics Partnership, FIND plays a leading role in accelerating the development and production of new diagnostic tools, as well as ensuring equitable access to testing. Trafigura Foundation’s partnership with FIND will allow the organization, in collaboration with its stakeholders, to accelerate its efforts in supporting low- and middle-income countries by:
- Increasing access to effective, accurate, easy-to-use and affordable tests for COVID-19
- Strengthening COVID-19 testing through training and mentoring programmes on innovative tools
- Improving surveillance and national-level tracking of COVID-19 cases, as well as coordinating long-term preparedness with a focus on diagnostics
FIND is engaging closely with WHO, The Global Fund and other stakeholders to provide leadership, technical insights and to solve issues impacting COVID-19 tests and testing.
